As anticipated, here we are at the 5th edition of Design Shanghai, probably the most prominent international design event here in Asia. Great vibes were felt at Design Shanghai, where we’ve found many design lovers, great new products, emerging and affirmed brands. Students, and professors all under the magnificent Exhibition Centre’s vaults and neoclassical plasters.
Design Shanghai aims to explore how eastern and western design philosophies can work together harmoniously through the presentation of designer furniture & decòr pieces in five halls: Contemporary, Classic & Luxury, Collectibles, Kitchen & Bathroom and Workplace.
The event also features bespoke installations, an inspirational design forum, and exciting networking events. We attended the forum “Dialogue Between Italy and China on Architecture and Design”: this forum, co-organised by the Italian Trade Agency, CNAPPC and the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, has brought on stage a number of Italian “Archistars” among which we wish to mention Pietro Chiodi of Studio Boeri Architetti Associati, the Architect of the well acclaimed Liuzhou Forest City.
Design Shanghai has quickly earned its position alongside the most established design events in the world and is becoming one of the must-see events in the international design calendar. This year, for the second year, part of Shanghai Design’s installations were hosted by the district of Xintiandi, the “city’s living-room”, one of the best places in the heart of Shanghai to unwind and relax after a long day.
Design Shanghai can be visited in one day and is definitely a great source of inspiration for anyone interested in exploring how the world of design is developing and gaining momentum in China.
During our visit, we met many good friends of our platform (Bentu, Nordst, Seed Design, WWTores) and we took many new contacts of amazing designers and suppliers that we wish to see soon among Dezoo’s registered members.
What we particularly liked were:
- Ziinlife: we’ve been watching this talented Chinese designer for a long time. They have really a great, defined talent reinterpreting the modern furniture design, always having in mind the desire of the modern consumers for unique and clean lines. Their Instagram account is a must follow(@ziinlife)!
- Ixoost Artistic Studio: I had a very delight chat with the Sales Director Giovanni Panini from Modena, Italy, the city where the fastest cars in the world (Ferrari, Maserati, and Lamborghini) are designed and produced. With a lot of passion and enthusiasm, Xoost creates unique “music machines” filled with top-notch technology made of exhaust pipes which were once part of famous cars. The result is a living and breathing sculpture to decorate your living room and to amaze your car-loving friends. If you cannot risk getting deaf driving a roaring Lamborghini Aventador, you may still wish to listen to Bach’s concert of pipe organ through the exhaustion pipes! Now that’s very cool, well done Giovanni!
- Openmake: a Chinese design & technology company in collaboration with Opendesk, this company believes in a natural, sustainable and creative way of life (who doesn’t nowadays? Mr. Trump maybe, but not many others luckily!) and has set his mission for the creation of enjoyable and well designed “open-source furniture”. Two words: awesome idea!
- EndlessForm: are you looking for “mad-max-style-hyper-modern-futuristic-durable-chairs”?? check out what Zhang Zhoujie Digital Lab is up to, you will be impressed.
